Today, we want to look at something that might sound a little bit off at first. We are looking at the top 10 most accurate handguns.
Now, why does this sound off? Because if you look for precision, you normally want a rifle. Be it the hunter with his bolt action or the sniper with his precision rifle. Handguns are rather underpowered, have a short sight radius, and are inherently unstable to shoot.
Underpowered rounds make for a higher trajectory at longer range that by itself is less precise. A short sight radius allows for small deviations that at ranges turn into pronounced misses. Holding a weapon at one point makes it harder to keep it steady on the target. Compare it to a rifle with at least 3 points of contact, the shoulder, the hand at the trigger, and the hand under the handguard.
So, why bother to go for precision if all you have is a handgun? There is first of course the wish to use it in a tournament. To be better than a competitor, you yourself and your gun have to be more accurate. Then there is the defense of your home. Taking bigger rooms and hallways into account, you might get some distance. Then there is the shooting of an attacker near a loved one. Precision becomes a completely new meaning in this situation. Also, even if the average self-defense encounter is at rather short distances, you might be forced to use your gun against something a little bit further away. Having some precision here is also very helpful.

Yeah, there she is, the 1911. It is a great gun, simple as it is, with awesome power, reliable and just good looking. Now, it is even more accurate as the Springfield Tactical Response Pistol, TRP. In .45 ACP, you get a caliber proven as a man stopper and easy to find in a store. This gun has been around with the military and law enforcement for most of the last century.
The standard accuracy was 5-inch groups at 25 yards and 10-inch groups at 50 yards. However, these were the old standards and the Springfield TRP improves on them. It comes with excellent ergonomics, and it is easy to bring fast follow-up shots on target.
The TRP has a fit forged frame and slide. Take it out of the box, and you can immediately use it. This means, you do not need to fire a certain number of rounds for the break-in. And let’s face it, it just has the most elegant design with the best accuracy ever.
Walther has been known for quality and accuracy. It comes as no surprise that you can find it on this list too. Here we have the Walther PPQ M2. This is the pistol with the best factory trigger on the market. Taking it out of the box gives you one of the best accuracies straight away thanks to that trigger.
If you are not sure what caliber to go, what gun or what manufacturer to choose, or what ergonomics are the best, go for this gun. It is the best middle ground in 9 mm. It just feels right in your hand and it is absolutely versatile. You can use it for home and self-defense, and it is small enough to carry it concealed. However, for the latter, you might want to go with the sub-compact variant. Of course, this gun is also great on the range.
What makes this striker fired pistol so accurate, besides the trigger, is also its ergonomics. This allows you to have a really good grip on it so that the recoil is easily manageable.
Staying with German manufacturers, we have the Heckler & Koch P30SK. This is an ultra-compact design for concealed carry. It maximizes functionality and safety. The manufacturer is one of the most respected companies in the world of firearms. It`s weapons are in use with militaries and law enforcement agencies all around the worlds. Even elite special forces units adopted this gun thanks to its design, reliability, and accuracy.
The guns are factory tested to make sure they function properly with the right accuracy, so that you can use them immediately when you take them out of the box. Not only is this gun very sophisticated and accurate, it is also military grade and works fine even in the most adverse circumstances. Its smooth dual action trigger does not only allow for precision but also for fast follow-up shots right on target.
The CZ Shadow 2 is a successor of the SP-01 Shadow and made its way into the competition shooting. It is a double-action/single-action design in 9 mm. It has a steel frame that also makes it rather heavy. However, when it comes to competitions, the weight is helpful as it mitigates the recoil rather well.
As can be expected from a competition gun, the sights are adjustable. Also, it comes with an ambidextrous thumb safety. Its size and weight do not lend themselves naturally to concealed carry, however, besides competitions, it is a great home defense gun. This is especially the case if your home is rather big so that there are some distances involved. Even in such a situation, in the middle of the night, full of adrenaline and shaking, its weight helps with the recoil and the smooth double action and crisp single action trigger helps with keeping the sights on target.
The slide has contours that help reduce muzzle flip. This allows you to place a succession of accurate shots on target without a problem. On the range, you can run thousands of rounds through this beauty and even novice shooters will get some really tight groups on target easily.
Let`s be honest guys, which handgun list would be complete without at least one Glock on it. In our list, it is the Glock 34 Gen5 MOS. It is a little bit costlier than other guns, but you get what you pay for. In the case of this nice little pistol, it is an extended Marksman Barrel for really great accuracy. That is paired with a longer sight radius and all in all longer slide dimensions compared to other Glock models. In this handgun, everything is about accuracy and target shooting.
The Marksman Barrel comes with polygonal rifling and an enhanced grown. Also, many will be happy, there are no finger grooves on this gun`s grip. The trigger has a pull of 5.5 pound and is of a snag-free design. SWAT teams use the Glock 34 as backup guns when they go in. You can even mount a TRijicon red dot sight on it.
This list has so many big companies in the firearms industry that browning cannot be left out. The Browning Hi-Power is a legend. Originally designed in the 1920`s, it was not only ahead of its time, but it would also survive into the 20`s of our century.
While this gun is not produced anymore, you can get it still on the second-hand market. It has a smooth single-action trigger with a quick reset. It is highly functional without any fancy features but still highly accurate when shot by someone who knows what he is doing. With this gun, you get a great balance of size, power, and handling.
The gun just feels nice in your hand and has the exact right size. It is comfortable and easy to point at any target. All in all, even today after so many years, it does hold its ground and still makes a good impression.
The Manurhin MR 73 is the coolest gun coming to the American market. Handmade for the French GIGN, a special unit comparable to SWAT, it is a revolver in .357 Magnum with 6 rounds in the chamber. What makes this gun so special is its trigger and its whole design. The trigger is optimized for double action, but you can use it in single-action, and it is adjustable. However, your groups will be tighter shooting it in double-action, hard to believe, but nevertheless true.
The gun is made to withstand tens of thousands of rounds shot through it annually without losing its accuracy. There are rumors that some of these revolvers have round counts greater than 1 million but still look like they just came out of the box.
Even novice shooters will have no problems shooting tight groups with this gun. With a little experience, you will be able to hit a man size target at 100 yards with your first round out of this gun. At 7 yards, you probably will just create one or two big holes with one cylinder full of ammo.
How well this gun is made and how much accuracy is baked into it can also be seen that the GIGN employs a sniper variant for use indoors. In big halls, ranges might exceed the limits of the standard side arm but do not yet warrant a sniper rifle. Here, the sniper variant of the MR 73 shines. It comes with a bipod and a scope.
The Beretta 92 FS has been around for a very long time and built up an impressive reputation. It served as the M9 in the US Army, and is still in use with militaries and law enforcement agencies all around the world. It is durable, it is accurate, and it is reliable. The gun is hammer fired and has a double-action/single-action trigger. With a big capacity magazine, at least for its time, you can deliver a lot of firepower.
The slide is open with a very long cut out on top. This brings exceptional accuracy with a lot less moving mass, and it is also responsible for the reliability. Instead of a small window for the ejection of spent cases, this big cut out just allows everything being ejected to clear the gun before the slide comes back.
With an all-metal frame you get a good weight at 33.3 ounces and a robust design. Especially for beginners, this gun is great, as the open slide reduces muzzle flip and absorbs a big part of the recoil.
Coming back to striker fired single stack handguns for concealed carry, we arrive at the Springfield XD-S Mod 2 OSP. This gun is fed by 7 or 9 round magazines, and you can have one more round in the chamber.
With great ergonomics, it is comfortable to hold and shoot. Its size makes it easy to conceal. If you need it smaller, go with the 7 round mag. You can always carry a 9-round mag for a fast reload. If you look for more options, there are 8 round magazines available.
The polymer frame is also prepared to accept various optics. This makes it easier if you choose to add one to acquire the target quickly, and it enhances the accuracy. The trigger pull is crisp, and the muzzle does not rise too much, further increasing the accuracy of this beauty.
The FNS-9 is another polymer frame striker fired pistol with a double action trigger. It was designed for the military and law enforcement. It is not that small, but can still be concealed. Also, you can use it for home defense.
A picatinny rail allows you to accept accessories. The barrel is cold hammer forged and made of stainless steel. The chamber and feed ramp are polished, and you have an indicator showing you if there is a round in the chamber. You aim with a fixed 3-dot-sight. There are compact variants and a variant with a long slide for more accuracy available. Also, you can get this gun with an optional safety.
